Savoring Tokyo in a Day

Tokyo, the capital city of Japan, is a renowned food city that continues to develop. It is a unique blend of food cultures from all regions of Japan.
If you have just one day, we recommend trying these interesting dishes to create an unforgettable experience.
Let’s go exploring from morning to night!

7.00 AM

Start your fresh morning with a cup of fragrant coffee and an affordable breakfast set, which includes toast, poached eggs, soup, and salad. Alternatively, you can choose to have Teishoku (定食), a traditional Japanese-style set meal that emphasizes healthy eating with a variety of food options. One set includes Japanese rice, one main dish, two side dishes, and delicious soup. There are various options such as the Tonkatsu set (deep-fried pork cutlet), Karaage set (Japanese-style fried chicken), Salt-grilled fish set, and Teriyaki grilled fish set.

In addition, if you are in a hurry, there are also quick dish options such as Tempura Soba (天ぷらそば) commonly found on street corners. The hot soup with smooth soba noodles is served with crispy tempura shrimp on top. It is delicious, fast, and full of nutritional value. Moreover, just stepping into a convenience store, you can find various Onigiri (おにぎり) rice balls with fillings such as salmon, tuna, egg, natto, or pickled plum, as well as freshly brewed coffee from an automatic drip machine at a great value to fill your stomach and keep you ready for work or walking all day long.

12.00 PM

Eliminate your lunchtime hunger with Yoshoku (洋食), Japanese-style western cuisine dishes such as Hamburg (ハンバーグ), Korokke (コロッケ), and Omu-raisu (オムライス), the bright yellow omelet rice packed inside by stir-fried rice with tomato sauce, onions, chicken, and mushrooms that popular among people of all ages and genders. Or, you can choose to satisfy your taste buds with Suteki Don (ステーキ丼), a bowl of rice topped with a steak of beef fillet sauteed in soy sauce flavored gravy, which is the perfect lunch for ease and volume. For sushi lovers, we recommend Kaiten Sushi (回転寿司), a conveyor belt sushi with a wide variety of fresh sushi for you to choose from and enjoy to the fullest.

3.00 PM

Relax during the afternoon with traditional Japanese sweets, Namagashi (生菓子), freshly prepared using natural ingredients that reflect the beauty and colors of the sakura blossoms in the spring. Made from rice flour filled with sweet and fragrant red bean paste, they are perfect when paired with hot green tea that has some slightly bitter. Alternatively, if you prefer something crispy, we recommend Senbei (せんべい), a snack made from wheat or wheat flour that is shaped into round or flat discs, then dried and grilled over the fire until crispy. It may be seasoned with salt, shoyu, sugar, or wrapped in nori seaweed. You can find many Senbei shops in Tokyo’s old downtown area and shopping districts around the city. Finally, end your afternoon delicious journey with Taiyaki (鯛焼き), a well-known Tai fish (Japanese red seabream)-shaped bread filled with sweet red bean paste. It’s extremely satisfying when eaten hot from the oven.

6.00 PM

When the sky starts to dim, it’s time for dinner. Fresh slices of raw fish known as Sashimi (刺身), paired with soy sauce and wasabi, make for a simple yet delicious meal. Fish roe and squid meat are also available. To take it up a notch, place the sashimi on top of steamed rice and pour tea or hot soup over it in a bowl, creating a Japanese-style dish called Chazuke (ちゃづけ), perfect for warming up on a cold day. As Tokyo is known as the best place to eat ramen, there are plenty of unique ramen dishes for you to choose from. First, we recommend trying the classic Tokyo Ramen, which has a light and savory soy sauce broth. Additionally, there are also vegetarian ramen options available for those who not consume meat.

11.00 PM

Deliciousness during the night can be found at Izakaya (居酒屋), which is hidden in entertainment and shopping areas in the heart of Tokyo. This cozy restaurant serves alcoholic beverages, snacks, and various dishes at reasonable prices. Starting with the Hiyayakko (ひややっこ), a dish that many people often order first when they arrived, which is a chilled tofu topped with shoyu sauce and various toppings such as shiso leaves, scallions, roasted sesame seeds, and bonito flakes. In addition, there are also popular dishes such as Karaage (fried chicken), Yakitori (grilled chicken skewers), and Edamame (boiled soybeans) for you to enjoy according to your preferences.

End your night on a high note with a popular winter dish called “Oden” (おでん), the Japanese stew that helps warm your body with boiled eggs, konjac, radish, shiitake mushrooms, meat, and various fish cakes served in hot soup with mellow flavors of soy sauce and kombu seaweed. Allow your stomach to relax before going to bed to prepare for the bright morning the following day.
