Mochi is made from sweet rice that has been soaked, steamed, and pounded into a thick, chewy paste. It is then allowed to dry until firm enough to slice into the handy block-like pieces available. Mochi can be grilled, pan-fried, or boiled, and once it is cooked it becomes soft, chewy, and ready to eat.
